@Gabz I use a very non-standard instance. There is a new feature that makes it really easy to hop instances, now, though -- you can automatically bring followers with you, so I don't think it matters as much these days.
I've noticed that mastodon.social is blocked by a lot of folks these days. I think it just got too big. I really like the <pinafore.social> web client for mastodon.
@eli I see! I think that's where i signed into when i setted up Mastodon, mastodon.social. I thinbk what I always had a hard time wrapping around my head was the whole. You know it not like twitter that you can find everyone and anybody and follow them, here we all need to be on the same instance, unless that has changed too.
@Gabz the network is a lot more reminiscent of email in shape -- it reminds me a bit of usenet (in theory...I never used it!?) -- you can connect with everyone on your instance easy peasy, and you can connect with anyone on an instance that is federated (connected to) with your instance. Some instances aren't connected to many others, most are connected to the primary spine oh the nextwork, though. I'm currently lurking at lazer.pizza/@eli\_oat
@simonwoods I just wanna be able to escape a link with back tics
alas... been an issue since day 1.
@simonwoods @eli @vincent Links do work in replies, but there's a separate bug where Micro.blog tries to auto-link URLs even if they have been escaped as a code block, which is what I think happened here.
@eli I was building up the exact conditions for issues with links in replies... in my head. Turns out™ "my head" is not a reliable place for storage.
