Hmmm, a piled-river. 🤔🤔 That's a new one on me.

Nicole was as hypersensitive as a piled-river. 'Oh dear,' was all she could say.

Screenshot of Piledriver incorrectly hyphenated in Kindle book.

Ohhhh. Kindle hyphenation … Pile-driver!

@Miraz It's amazing how poorly formatted ebooks continue to be. (FWIW, I was trying to picture piles of logs on a river, but that got me nowhere.)

@alexandra I presume it's automated as it would change with font family and size choices. I guess that one wasn't in the dictionary of exceptions…

@markstoneman I'm mostly happy with the ebooks I read — I choose my own font and size and a couple of other settings. After all, I really just want to the words in a readable format. I rarely notice ebook formatting problems.

@Miraz Ha ha! Love these kinds of mishy-phenations! (I’m going to have to figure how to work phrases like “as subtle as a piled river” into my conversations now.)

@Miraz For me it happens sometimes with footnotes or elements that should be clickable that aren't. But readabilty is great. And the old Paperwhite I have is really, really old, and still works.

@markstoneman Gives me the book in a convenient, pleasant and readable form. I sometimes tap on words to get meanings; rarely highlight an interesting bit and even more rarely enlarge the font if my eyes are specially tired. I just 'upgraded' from a 2-year old Kindle to a Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition and am very happy.
