It strikes me that Facebook changed their company name to Meta to tell the world they were committed to AR/VR as the future. Apple silently toiled away investing in a product so compelling and advanced that it has universally flabbergasted demonstratees to show how deadly serious they are about it.

@jarrod it’d be a bit much to roll out the “true artists ship” line, because Meta has clearly been shipping. So maybe this is just “show, don’t tell”. Still, remarkable that Apple doesn’t have to change its name or disclose how many billions it’s investing.

@jsonbecker Agreed, I think “show, don’t tell” is exactly right, and has long been Apple’s prerogative.

@jarrod @jsonbecker Apple isn't named after a single product that they've decided is not their future anymore. For a better situational comparison, imagine if Apple was actually called "iPhone".

@jarrod I wonder how much the knowledge of Apple entering the field influenced FB to make the big bang rebrand in an attempt to claim the category. It wasn’t so long time ago and I’d assume they were aware of Apple’s work on Vision Pro 🤔
