This response to “Quiet Quitting” is delicious.

Bosses want to be religious leaders rather than actual leaders. Managers want to be productivity cops, ever-vigilant of anyone failing to contribute to the company while avoiding every reflective surface.

@bjhess I did this at my old job. I kept getting more responsibilities with no pay increase. So my calendar had a reoccurring event starting at 5 PM, so they couldn’t book me to do installs after hours. And I’d take my sweet ass time to get tasks done.

I prefer the phrase “working my wage” though.

@sgtstretch That's a much better, more accurate phrase! I'm still friends with many at my prior job, and the weeks/months of mandatory overtime and "take no vacation here" blocks are pretty mind blowing.

@bjhess Not allowing vacation time and mandatory overtime is ridiculous. Employers also try to frame it to their advantage, allowing employees to put in a PTO request, and denying if a coworker is out on that day. I stopped treating them as requests.

The last time I put in for PTO at my previous job, my coworker was out on a day I needed off, and they tried to deny it. I ended up telling them I wasn't going to be in, because of an appointment for baby checkup. Which was a lie, I was actually heading out of town for a weekend with friends, and a job meeting for my now current job.

@sgtstretch Sometimes you just have to tell a story to let the higher ups allow the right decision. :)
