being in “technology” these days is expensive. feels like a race to the bottom, even a raspberry pi once was cheap and now if you want a rpi5 or a cm5 they are over $100 – access to silicon/chips is getting all too arc raiders real life, unless more players enter the mix, everything is subscription

@settee its cause everything is a subscription or can be turned into one. revenue is king after all. own nothing and be happy phrase has a wikipedia page that is pretty interesting.

@llbbl i guess having memory of the “before times” makes this hard to agree too. i mean i’m still a .mp3/.flac boy and don’t really subscribe to a lot of things just grandfathered in from my wifes plans and other people on things but i guess you are right. the less i own the better i feel for sure.

@settee Dude, I’m not saying I’m happy with all the subscriptions or capitalism, rather, it’s just a byproduct of the world we live in and I’ll make the best of it for as long as I am able.

@llbbl i think that’s the narrative for the majority, everyone is equally self assured in that pursuit. kinda taken the fun out of it, i think i need to go to more hacker/maker spaces and see if there are any humans left or if we have all been openclaw’d on white claws.
