I’ve spent the past week experimenting a bit with a more active process of seeking out new blogs and have been pondering writing a post about the process as well how I’m logging discoveries. First though, I’ll share this post because it prompted me to actually start writing the post I’d been thinking about. @Denny I'm disappointed in what the micro.blog discovery feed has turned into. It goes days without updates. On Scribbles, the feed is actually similar to what's on BearBlog. it's just a chronological list of posts. It's just that Scribbles has a much smaller active user base. I'm glad to see that you are getting some use out of Blogroll.club. @jedda and I keep an eye on the submissions and have done our best to keep out anything that doesn't subscribe to the IndyWeb ethos.

Also, thanks to your blog I've just spent the past 3 hours setting up Pico on one of my sites. I used Blosxom 20 years ago and have been wanting to try something like that again. Pico looks very promising!🤓 It seems very similar to Blot but self hosted. I've added your site to my group to explore further.

As for the original topic, I've relied on RSS for so long it had not occurred to me until recently to question whether it was really working for my blog reading. It was in the back of my mind that I was missing posts from blog feeds just because the much higher frequency of posts coming from the news sites was drowning them out. It's only been a few days with this new experiment and really, the first time I've made an effort to use Tab Groups in Safari so, I'm curious to see if it proves useful.

@Denny Oh yeah, Pico is great, but isn’t really maintained anymore, and I had trouble getting a plugin running and setting it up across a couple of laptops. So sadly, I ditched it and settled on Kirby (which is also very good).

I have a feed mentality, I think. I just hadn’t really seen it like that until I read your post. Interesting to see how the experiment works out.​

@Denny I can very much relate to this post. I initially started out on Mb but realized that the community that it was touted for... wasn't what I was looking for. Hopped around a bit, ended up on Scribbles, and then landed on Bear. I haven't really looked back since (well fine, on occasion, like now when I wanted to see what's going on here).

Like @amerpie already mentioned, many thanks for giving Blogroll.club a shoutout. It's been super exciting finding new blogs via submissions over there as well.

I've added this to my Postroll, which also lists out quite a few different blogs on a rolling basis. ​

it just means that the feed is updated infrequently and reflects the biases of one person’s preferences. It’s truly a terrible implementation.

Preach! You’re not wrong! I don’t bother doing my weekly scan for new people on M.B. Anymore as it’s just dire.

I’ve been tempted by bear and pika, but I post a lot of photos and they just don’t really seem as geared up for that as Micro.blog is… (not that Micro.blog is amazing at that either)

@DaveyCraney my photo blog is on Bear. It's definitely do-able and haven't had any issues with it.

@jedda I see your photos are hosted on flickr? So bear doesn’t have any in built storage? I kinda like that micro.blog is a one stop shop.

I might just dive in and have a play. See how I get on.

@DaveyCraney oh it does for paid accounts. It acts very similarly to what Mb has, I just don't use it. I prefer to have my photos in one centralized location.
