Why is #Apple #Music so fucking shit? I have a "smart" playlist that automatically downloads my playlist to my device, yet it still requires an internet connection to play the songs.

That's not to mention the random times it just decides not to play a song at all.

@kev I have been running into "I'm not going to play that track" a lot on Apple Music over the past month or so.

@kev

Can't speak to Apple, but I have the same feature in Spotify which works well. Any downloaded songs will play offline (as nature intended). I love that songs can be added to the playlist from anywhere else (say a PC) and phone will just download them automatically later.

Supposedly it will delete the songs if the device hasn't been online for 28 days or so. Even if that ever happened, going back online would just retrieve them again automatically.

@LiNuXsys666 I used to use Spotify, but Apple One is a much better deal. Plus, as I understand it, they pay artist a lot more (albeit still a pitiful amount).

@kev Apple's modus operandi has long been, "You'll take what we give you and like it." They've had great success in the last couple decades based on that philosophy. Even when they make a shit product, their faithful still use it and many will defend it and say it's good because it's Apple.

@mike I like some of Apple’s stuff, but I’m just as happy to call out what’s shit about them haha.

@kev Yea, unfortunately not everybody who uses their products are so objective. A few years back, I was talking to a good friend of mine who is a rabid Apple guy and he was mentioning that there was a new product coming from Apple (I don't remember which one). He literally said, "I don't know what it is, but I'm buying it." He literally had no idea what the product was or if he would have any use for it, but he was set on buying it anyway, just because it was from Apple. He's not alone.

@mike @kev I definitely had moments like that in the past. When smartphones had huge updates and hardware upgrades per iteration it was very tempting to buy the new stuff. Since a few years ago, I've been trying to sustain what I have. My current phone is the Pixel 5 and I've replaced the battery already :D

@kev @LiNuXsys666 DSPs will pay the distributor, indie artists are most likely their own distributor, but then indie artists would prob paid fractions of cents for a stream. It’s just another crappy model that doesn’t benefit the artist pudding.cool/2022/06/streaming

@jnv @kev I say save your sanity and go back to CDs or digital DRM free music. No licensing issues, no download issues, no app issues, etc. It just works.

@adamsdesk @jnv I’d love to do that, but it works cost thousands to build up that collection. I’m convinced that most people who go back to the old way pirate most their music. Which, to me, is far worse.

@kev Well I cam understand that. Pirating is worse. However streaming in most context just screws the artist since they don't get paid their fair share. It's a slow process to build a physical or digital library I admit. The music industry is nasty. @jnv

@adamsdesk thankfully I kept my CD collection. That being said, it's under my bed.

I use Tidal and stream the majority of my music. But when I find an album I like. I buy the record if it's available.

Obviously, I do this because I'm comfortably able to do so.

@kev Thousands? Nah. I've been doing that by borrowing CDs from the public library and burning them to my hard drive.
