The bay at Russell was very peaceful in the morning.

After a short stroll we ended up at Hell Hole cafe for coffee and tea. I really liked the lamp shades.

Russell was originally called Kororareka or Hell Hole.

@Miraz So nice! Is “cabinet food” baked goods?

@Miraz
Those names are not equivalent. Kororā-reka
means "sweet (little blue) penguin", in reference to a dying chef's last meal, and is from antiquity. Hell-hole was an epithet for the town (and a big reason the Rangatira wanted a Titiri) but I've never heard that it was a common name.

@rpmik Cabinet food is ready made, likely to be pastries or filled rolls and the like.

@Miraz oh! Of course! That makes total sense. I’d never seen that term before. Right now I can only think of pastry case as an equivalent in the USA but now I wonder

@Miraz Actually I should have wrote Prepared Food or pastries rather than Pastry Case. I got a bit off track there 🤣
