The thing I miss most about traveling without a personal laptop is the Photos app. I just don’t enjoy it as much on the iPad. I have been thinking about whether I should get my own MacBook Air or upgrade my old iPad to 11" or even 13" iPad Pro. I don’t think the iPad is enough.

@jsonbecker I'm leaning heavily toward a MacBook Air + iPad mini as my mobile setup.

@jarrod if the mini had been more recently updated, I’d consider it. The 16” Pro I need to carry for work really makes me not want a second laptop. But the Mac Mini at home is my favorite computer. Having my newish job be this locked down sucks.

@jsonbecker Yeah, if I didn’t already have an iPad mini, I’d wait for an update. I’m a huge fan of my Mac mini too, but I’ve wanted macOS-but-mobile.

@jarrod For me it's the company MacBook Pro (which might as well be an Air—I'm not a coder and I don't create videos, podcasts, music, design, etc.) and my personal iPad Mini. Fortunately my company is medium-loose about locking the MacBook Pro down so I've been able to load some personal stuff on it (which may become problematic for security and privacy purposes, but trade-offs are necessary).

@jsonbecker If Apple releases an updated iPad Mini I will be VERY tempted. I wonder if they are hesitating because a folding phone (eventually, right?) will overlap the iPad Mini use case. But a folder is much more complex (and fragile) and will carry a much higher price.

@ronkjeffries I think we’re years away from a folding phone. I think the mini is just already “good enough” for the majority audience that buys them.

@jsonbecker going soon for a three weeks trip in Croatia and the M4 iPad Pro will be my only device (I do a lot of photos in RAW with Photomator). It’s not my first experience with an iPad-only device… the only difference this time is that I won’t have the Magic Keyboard… because too expansive. Cc @jarrod
