With this whole social distancing and all, i am wondering. How is it going to work tomorrow when i get my delivery and have to sing for it?

@Gabz Wear gloves. Open the door but stay a couple of metres away and ask if they can step back whilst you sign and take the package. Make it happen as quickly as possible. No mindless chatter or anything like that.

@simonwoods that’s kind of what I was thinking, unfortunately I don’t have gloves, I’m pretty sure the ups driver will. But yeah, quick and wash my hands right away

@simonwoods @Gabz Also, use your own pen. Open the box, wash your hands, take the things out, wash your hands, take the box outside or to the recycling bin, wash your hands. It looks like the virus can survive on cardboard or stainless steel for up to 2 days, so if you really must, put the package in its entirety, without opening it, in a quarantine room for a couple or three days. But washing your hands at every step should be OK, from what I’ve read.

@yorrike @simonwoods foobd this at the UPS website

In the interest of employee and customer safety, UPS’s Signature Required guidelines are temporarily being adjusted such that consignees will no longer need to sign for UPS Signature Required deliveries.

@Gabz UPS sent out a notice that they have a special procedure for this. “No-touch No-sign Delivery: We’ve heard your concerns and changed how customers sign for packages to minimize contact.” It included a link to this page.

I wear gloves when I get the mail out of our mailbox and place it into ‘quarantine’ for two days.

@Gabz LOL, that’s on you dude 😉 Just open it outside and put the outer box and any plastic wrap etc directly into an outdoor trash can. I’ve seen reports the virus can live on packaging for a few days but I haven’t seen much evidence it is a common transmission method in real life.

@ronguest right! i do like the idea of opening the outer box outside and straight to the recycling bin tho. It's the little things we sometimes don't think about, but then again. When does it stop? The threat and paranoia are real. To the point that I have a dedicated change of clothes and shoes to use when I go out to the store for supplies, I leave the shoes out in the garage, they don't come to inside the house, clothes stay in the laundry.

@Gabz Our postman doesn’t even wear gloves so I guess he isn’t worried (he’s def in the danger re age). 🤷🏻‍♂️ We’ve kind of made a game out of all our precautions and find it amusing.

@Gabz we had a delivery the other day and the guy kind of tossed it while staying a few feet away. We live in an apartment and he came up the stairs and just put it over the railing without coming the rest of the way up. Didn’t ask to sign or anything.

@donnydavis That's what I am kind of hopping that it'll go. Just leave it by the door and I'll take care of it.
