I rejected diet and activity tracking apps and came up with this simpler and better(?) approach to meet my needs ronguest.net

@ronguest Spreadsheets can be “the app for that.” :)

That said, this looks more like “habit tracking” than diet+activity tracking, at least to me. I could see an app like Streaks—that can tie-in to Apple Health for some stuff—potentially be a better match than MFP or Activity.

@ronguest Of course, in the end, I guess Streaks is sort of a glorified spreadsheet. 😁

@ronguest I’ve been using Lifesum, and have been motivated and informed by the app, even thou I’d welcomed alternative meal-layout. Also, the food data is a mess of user inputs in different languages and arbitrary brands lumped together with verified food. But, still, I find it useful! 😊

@muncman I have tried Streaks and it just didn’t work for me. It seemed overly complex and, at that time at least, there was no macOS app. It also seemed to be trying too hard to be cute making it difficult, at least for me, to see trends over a long period of time.

@odd I think the way MFP worked wasn’t an issue for me. It is just that, after logging daily for over a year, I know what my meals are like. I don’t need to put in each ingredient or item etc to know so there was no real added value continuing to track the details.

@ronguest Oh, I see. I’ve been on and off Lifesum for that reason.

When I was off, my diet slided back into some bad habits like “what’s a little chocolate gonna do?” for me, and at first it was conscious choices, but then they got semi-conscious, and then unconscious, so I guess, I personally, need it (for now), until permanent habits are formed again.

I wish us both good luck achieving our health goals for 2020! We can do it! 👊😀👍

@ronguest Gotcha. I can see that. For me, it’s close to what I’d like, but the shortcomings are driving me away from it.
