@rosemaryorchard Thanks for sharing! I’m currently thinking through the sizes. I have a 1st gen 12.9 and it’s too heavy to use it often, so I’ve been thinking about the 11 and your review was super helpful trying to wrap my head around actually using an 11.

@EddieHinkle I find the 11 very comfortable to use. I use to have a 7" netbook back in the day (with an external dongle as big as an iPhone for "cellular") so with that comparison 11" is positively luxurious! I think it all depends on what your daily carry is right now and if the iPad will add to that or replace something.

@rosemaryorchard Yeah, that makes sense! Originally I used to take my 12.9 with me but I find I don’t take it anymore because of the weight, so I think that pushes me into the 11in camp because the iPad with you is better than the iPad at home! Haha

@EddieHinkle Reports are that the new 12.9 is physically smaller and lighter than before, so you might want to see the two in person and compare.

I wish Apple would just upgrade the iPad Mini to the A10 processor... or A12, they could keep everything the same and upgrade the processor and I would be happy.

@frankm I’ve heard those reports too, but I also have heard that while it makes it lighter and smaller there is still a huge gap between the weight of the 12.9 and the 11. I do think it would be nice try check them both out in person. The lack of portability over time with my 12.9 definitely makes me a bit hesitant about the 12.9 again. Haha

@EddieHinkle That is extremely true. My view is that I pay a lot for these devices, why wouldn't I carry them around and use them? Don't forget the holiday return period has started with Apple so if you buy it direct and want to change, providing its like new, you'll be able to do so.

@rosemaryorchard Ohhh that’s true! I didn’t think about the holiday return policy! That’s great to remember!

@rosemaryorchard Glad to see your experience with it since I’m dealing with the size dilemma myself. I currently have the smallest iPad Pro (9.7”) and the screen is smaller than I’d like. Several folks have talked up the 12.9” model and my wife uses one. But it seems heavy to me and hard to be mobile one-handed. I keep staring at the specs for size, weight and resolution wondering which to get! 🤷‍♂️

@EddieHinkle How is the 12.9” size (weight) around the house and on a lap? I’m torn about how and when to upgrade my 9.7” Pro.

@ronguest Definitely go check them out in person.

If it were the same size as the old 12.9 I would have gone with the new 11. Given the sleek size of the new 12.9, I don’t regret going 12.9 this go around!

@Burk Yes I plan to. But I like to get personal opinions as well. I’ve found looking at things in the store is a bit, I don’t know, unreal? Sizes seem different (because of such a large open space I suppose) and there’s no real way to get in the positions I would actually use it in. Glad to hear of your experience.

@ronguest The 12.9" is nice, but hard to use one handed. Here's the 9.7" vs the 11": rosemaryorchard.com/microblog...
