I recently tried switching from an external HDD to an APFS formatted external SSD for backing up my MBP but macOS crashes in the middle of the night every day if the SSD is attached (many OS app crash logs). Unmount the SSD and it runs fine for days. Can’t find the culprit 😞.

@ronguest hmm, using Time Machine or a third party tool like Carbon Copy Cloner?

@ronguest This kind of trouble is so hard to debug. I have felt this pain. One idea to explore is the possibility that it’s more of a hardware problem than a software problem. This is sometimes the source of cascading app crash logs as a resource the software needs flakes out.
