I’ve solved my HEY vs Fastmail dilemma by not solving it at all: copingmechanism.com/2021/hey-…

@jack Hmmmmm. I forgot to do the math 🤣😂 I’ll take a look now, I don’t actually know how much I’m paying for Fastmail as I was grandfathered in a plan they don’t offer anymore. Should be interesting.

@maique probably the 40/year plan

@jack what’s your plan for consolidating your email between the two accounts, are you just forwarding one of them to the other? I think my issue with that would be determining which address to use for which purposes, between the hey address and a domain address. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@hjertnes Yep, checked. Since 2013! It’s actually sobering to see how much they provide for that price. No-nonsense service, full feature set, for that cool price. Renews December 2022! I’m here playing with HEY and have a ton of time still left over there... 🤣🤣🤣

@maique I've been using them since the start of 2014 😅

@hjertnes We moved there at the same time! 😊

@jack I’m still blaming the beer, and maybe the curiosity to find out how things worked when adding the domain to HEY, but your solution is what I should have done 🤣🤣 I think I’ll never be able to ditch FastMail, the price is really affordable, and things worked just fine. But I had to tinker, right?

@ohBananaJoe Maybe, but at the rate I'm going it won't last long! :)

@pimoore I'm planning to continue forwarding from Fastmail to HEY and using my @baty.net address for everything. I've no plans for the @hey.com address but it's there if I find a use for it, I suppose. This has been smooth ever since they added the ability to SMTP forward from my baty.net address right from HEY.

@maique I'm not sure which is the best route, honestly. I'll be watching HEY for Domains features over the coming months. Who knows, they might add something I can't live without :). The biggest thing that made me stick with Fastmail too is that my wife isn't interested in "learning a whole new email thingy" and it's also much cheaper adding her to Fastmail than to HEY. So for now, it's both.

@jack I'd be very interested in reading your thoughts about your Remarkable at some point. I doubt anyone else here has as much experience with alternative tools as you do. Of course skip any definitive conclusions, as we know you might change those at any time. 😏

@jack As usual I’ll be keeping an eye on your thoughts. I’m also keeping both for now, since both accounts are settled for a long time. I moved one domain, and I’ll see how that works out.

HEY, the show that keeps on giving, Season 2 is coming! 🤣

@jack This is what I’ve been trying too. Reading your post kind of confirms my hunch that it’s best for me to keep both. More money but more flexibility, e.g. I could use Hey for M.b without requiring @jean to also switch.

@manton @maique @Ron @jack @ohBananaJoe @hjertnes @pimoore @Burk interesting conversation. I have tried Hey but decided to stick with FastMail for another year. I did, however, subscribe to SimpleLogin.Io with custom domains that forwards to FastMail. What makes this great is that you can send from the aliases you create on the fly while hiding your FastMail email address.

@jack This is actually a great idea. I saw Hey for Domains and was like "Maybe time to finally try it" not realizing they had SMTP/Forwarding. Imma try that out, thank you!

@jack @merecivilian yeah - it is a way to hide your real email address and have really unique aliases per site/service. What is even better is that you can reply with the alias as FROM email address. Can't do that with the "+" technique.

@rom @jack @merecivilian I like the fact I can keep using iCloud email with this but attach a domain to it. I’m trying to see what the catch is but I don’t seem to find one. 😂
