Like many, I had to bring my office home during #COVID-19. I got my first office shelf setup today, and we now have bookshelves in 5 rooms.
@toddgrotenhuis love the no starch collection. I’ve been meaning to check out black hat python and black hat go. Do you find you’re able to apply programming ideas you learn after sitting and reading, or do you sit with the book in front of a keyboard and code as you go?
@robertsapunarich I find that working with concepts as I go is usually the best way to make things stick. So for programming-related things, that means typing some myself, and trying to synthesize it into some previous work or a current project.
Full disclosure: I don't do a lot of coding, especially now since I'm in upper management. Many of the deeper technical books are now basically kept as references.
@joshuapsteele there's certainly overlap, but if you like that one, you might like the two red ones to the left of it (mental models books from Farnam Street) or the blue cards in the bottom right (mental models cards from Wise Charlie)
@toddgrotenhuis Oooh, those cards are tempting. How would you rank them for usefulness compared to "Super Thinking"?
@joshuapsteele the book is probably a better resource, but I'm a sucker for cards. I made flashcards from the mental models books, too.
