I was excited to finally download the Libby app.

But every book I want to read has a 6+ hold on it. Literaly every book.

Back to the library for physical copies I go.

@thestevepbrady Best to get on hold because that lets the library know to purchase extra copies. Also, look for books that were popular two years ago. But yes, ebooks and audiobooks have a longer wait than physical books; it kinda goes against the argument that people prefer physical books.

@pratik or it might just be that people don’t want to have to go to the library to pick it up and then again to drop it off. Digital delivery is just so much more convenient!

@thestevepbrady Patience is a virtue with Libby, especially when you first use it. Put holds on lots of books that you’d like to read, then any time you find a book you might want to read, put a hold on it in Libby. After a few months, you’ll have more books ready to check out than you could possibly read. It’s super easy manage a loan if you’re not ready to read a book when it becomes available. Libby also supports multiple library cards, so your area has more than one library (i.e. city and county), you can add both cards. Libby will pick the library with the shortest line automatically. Enjoy!

@rscottjones It's definitely that, and you will be surprised at how much older people love digital media. They can increase the font size in a regular ebook when large print books are unavailable or rather listen to an audiobook rather than strain their weakening eyes or a Kindle is simply lighter to hold up than an average-sized hardcover. Personally, I love highlighting passages I like and I can't do that in a physical library book. Highlighting in a library ebook, even on Kindle books, is great coz it syncs to my Readwise account.

@pratik The older I get, the more appeal eBooks have.
