The more emotion you feel when writing, the more powerful that writing will be.

Your best writing probably happened when you were mad, sad, excited, scared, thankful, etc.

Having big feelings?

Might be a good time to pick up a pen.

@joshspector Recently, I’ve gone back to longhand journaling and I’m loving it. I have noticed a significant improvement in my handwriting. It has gotten so much neater. 😀

@ridwan same here (well, paper since 2020).

Some of my most impassioned writing tends to be raging at the stupidity of impersonal bureaucracies … writing it gets it out of my system, but is not all that edifying when shared.

@joshspector something I’ve taken to doing lately is expanding on quick one off emails to friends as posts. I find I’m less inhibited when I’m sharing something I’m excited about with an audience of one that I know. Often those are also appropriate for a wider audience too.

@ridwan Nice! I don’t really journal but I do take notes by hand usually.

@eludom Yeah, one of the things I always tell clients is that they’ve already created amazing content in their sent emails folder - they just don’t realize it.

@eludom I personally feel like longhand writing soothes my soul and calms my racing mind. For some weird reason I can’t get on with digital journaling. There is no personality in digital journaling.

@ridwan and you can draw lines, cross things out, doodle. The slow speed of writing, forming each letter, crossing out mistakes, erasing, etc. somehow gives you time to think.

@joshspector Sometimes these thoughts can hurt others! I do think it wrong for people to read others journals, and get upset with what they have read, but it makes me curious, how do you show compassion after the fact? (and make sure you have privacy)
