@ridwan I'm an Emacs org-mode user. I know it's not for everyone, that's fine.

The one thing that will never happen with emacs org mode is having my ideas, journal, wiki and notes behind their pay wall. Not just because it's a free product, but because it's a simple syntax you can read with any text editor. I think this should be a requirement for anyone writing their notes.

@jtr I have heard of Emacs. Never bothered to look into it. Too technical for me. Standard Notes for me fits my needs but I always thought Evernote was a solid product that lost its way due to mismanagement and lack of focus.

@ridwan I tried standard notes (I think that's an encrypted version of notes in markdown, if I'm not mistaken?). Agree with you on Evernote, as a person who used it himself, went premium, and even got the shirt... it was my first notes app that really worked for me for several years.

At one point, Google shut down an alternative account of mine unrelated to my notes in Evernote. I tried to reach out and have them reopen, but nothing. Years of contacts and files went down the drain. I think that was the first eye-opener that I can't trust companies with my data. That's the main point for me... how you do it and which program is up to you, of course.

Just trying to drive the point home since I don't think I was clear enough earlier. I hope things work out for you with Standard Notes :)
