Stop glorifying 2x listening of audiobooks & podcasts!

Bad news for all the 2x podcast listeners… pic.twitter.com/YeHDIXjGkx

@ridwan I’ve often wondered about these apps offering increased speed for listening to books or podcast, also for cancelling out the silent bits? Habits build habits, and so I would imagine that if one wanted to listen to an audio production quicker, how is it effecting, or how will it effect one’s ability to listen to other things/people when it is not possible to control their speed? Impatience? Not being able to concentrate?

It makes me think of Oliver Bukerman’s Four Thousand Weeks.

@ridwan 2x listening/watching of work meeting recordings can be a big win though. Fast listening for leisure - not keen on it.

@todor If I had learn something on YouTube or Skillshare. Then yes, I go for 1.2 or 1.5x speed.

I have deliberately avoided 2x speeds for podcasts.

@rcrackley @crossingthethreshold I feel once I start to listen to podcasts in 2x speed and get accustomed to it; I expect the same for Video podcasts.

@crossingthethreshold I tend to listen to audible at 1.2x speed. I guess the brain expects all conversations at breakneck speeds. 🤣 @rcrackley
