It’s a real shame to see that the unique and clever American Gods has been canceled. This was the first Neil Gaiman book I ever read, so it holds a special place in my heart. I hope they’ll be able to wrap things up with a possible movie. 📺

@Gaby Likewise, but hey, at least you’ve got an excellent book to enjoy. You’re in for a weird, captivating ride with that one.

@gr36 Sounds like there may have been a good reason for it to have been canceled then. Still, it’s one of the highest profile Gaiman adaptations (aside from Good Omens) and I worry that it getting canceled might make for a shaky future for other adaptations of his work.

@gr36 @dandycat I am really enjoying the book it just that took a bit to really get into it once I passed what I have already seen on the first season of the tv show which is all I have seen. I have been in a Gaiman rollercoaster recently, first I did The Sandman, then Norse Mythology which was amazing to listen to that one whilst playing assassins creed Valhalla, then Neverwhere, and now this one. I am presuming the book is the whole story. Am I right?

@rom Yeah, it's a real bummer. There's talk about maybe wrapping things up with a limited series or movie, but still...

@Gaby That Gaiman rollercoaster is a good one, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. Anansi Boys does indeed feature several recognizable characters. Gaiman also did a novella called The Monarch of the Glen in his collection of short stories called Fragile Things that continues Shadow's story. That could be worth reading when you've finished your current read.

@Cheri I couldn't agree more. It really captivated me and turned me into a lifelong Gaiman fan.

@dandycat that’s disappointing. I really enjoyed season 1, though have to admit that I started losing interest in season 3

@mroutley Ah, so there may have been a reason why it was canceled then. Hopefully, they'll be able to wrap it up somehow. I always hate when a show is left unfinished.

@dandycat The show is in Amazon Prime right? I think I’ve purchased the audiobook on Audible ages ago. Maybe it’s worth a read.

@ridwan American Gods is a Starz show, so it's purchaseable through Amazon, but it's not free with a Prime membership. Good Omens, another recent Neil Gaiman adaptation, is an Amazon Prime show and is available to watch without an additional purchase right now. Regardless, and I may be biased here, but I do think both of them are worth a read.

@dandycat Right. I got confused. 🤣 I have listened to Norse Mythology few years back. Incredible book.

@ridwan That was a remarkable book, and really helped fill in the gaps in my knowledge of Norse mythology. A person can quickly learn that Marvel movies, while fun, are not the most accurate thing when it comes to this subject and shouldn’t be relied on.
