@rickcogley Really enjoyed reading this! Amazing scenery, and that Doe was stunning!

We haven't had a family hike for a few months now. Makes me want to get my boots on! 🥾

@DaveyCraney yeah, she was. If it were a bear I’dve been in real trouble. Where do you usually hike?

@rickcogley Yep! I read about the bears in Japan. having to put a bell on your backpack to keep them away! Thankfully not a problem in the UK. I'm really lucky to live in Dorset so there's some beautiful scenery and walks around the Jurassic coast, and Portland Island.

@DaveyCraney I’ve seen the signs for bears but haven’t run into any, or even seen tracks or spoor. I don’t think there are many in the areas I usually hike, but there are in the middle of the country, especially the north. “Murder hornets” are more of a real worry.

@DaveyCraney Dorset looks lovely! I read on AllTrails about a hike to Durdle Door which looks perfect.

@DaveyCraney so I looked to see if there are any bears near Hakone, where I go a lot, and apparently there are. This site shows there were 11 sightings last and 1 sighting this year so far, and warns about leaving food out that they can find. The bear type is apparently a tsukino waguma or "asian black bear".

@rickcogley we saw a big hornet once near a bench in Kyoto. As soon as we saw it we basically walked in the opposite direction!
