We're 86 days into 2023, and today’s Covenant School mass shooting is the 128th so far this year. That means we're averaging 1.49 mass shootings a day.
This country is seriously messed up.
@jgamet We seem to be frozen, stuck, in a rut. In general we seem to agree that our political processes, institutions are deeply flawed, broken, corrupted, etc. And yet, as citizens, we fail to take action. Looking at the strikes/protests that are happening in France... widespread collective actions are much more likely in Europe in general and it seems to result in better government. He we just stew in a strange mix of apathy and frustration and wait for... what exactly?
I missed seeing the news about today’s Milwaukee mass shooting. That brings our average up to 1.5 a day.
@jgamet I keep thinking, this has to be the tipping point. It can't go on. I thought Sandy Hook would be the catalyst for change... then more recently, Uvalde. How can we as humans allow this to continue?
I understand it is a complex issue. Constitutional rights, inadequate funding for mental health care, and societal apathy due to lack of progress all play their part.
I don't have an easy answer. All I know is that we have come to read these news stories with a sense of near expectation paired with complete despair and helplessness, and it just makes me so sad.

I don’t enjoy having come to where I have on this topic, but here it is: the pressures of capitalism will never allow this to change. The only way out is to eliminate the source, i.e. weapons and ammunitions manufactures—and there is WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for that to happen in any organic way, any legislative way. If you have enough money to do it, you don’t give a shit. If you don’t have enough money to do it, who listens?
My suggestion is pay attention, wear tactical clothing, and have good luck.
