I finally got my ‘Create Blank Text File’ quick action for the Finder working the way I want. I can invoke it regardless of the item type selected, it will create the file in the current directory and make the file the selected item.
@Burk Yeah, it's something I used a lot in Windows and it always seemed strange to me that it wasn't built in to Finder. I made it using Automator but if you're looking for something similar, there are some apps on the Mac App Store that add a similar feature to Finder's context menu.
@simonwoods @pyrmont @Burk If you open Terminal and get yourself to the correct directory you can type ‘touch example.png’ or whatever to create a blank file of any type. You could also issue that command from a shell script.
@Miraz @simonwoods @Burk Yeah, that is an option. This is really about reducing the number of steps to get to that point. It's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things but makes things more comfortable for people coming from Windows who feel a little lost without it, I think.
I generally don't rebind the default keyboard shortcuts in macOS, but it's for the same reason that I rebind 'move focus to next window' to Option-Tab rather than Command-~
