The quality of coverage and writing at the NY Times has been on the decline for the past couple of years and I’ve been wanting to pull the trigger, but this is the thing that finally drove me to cancel my subscription.

I am leaning towards giving The Atlantic my money.

@purisubzi Aside from the occasional links I clicked thru from elsewhere, I stopped reading after 2016.

@pratik I'd stopped too after 2016. But reupped it because parents were heading to the US and wanted to read something local. Only my dad read it religiously, until he too gave up a month or so ago!

I subscribed to The Atlantic just now. Both the stories and the iOS app feel like a breath of fresh air.

@purisubzi Even I unsubscribed recently. I used to find at least some article of interest earlier in the morning briefings. It stopped being the case for the last few years. No longer wanted to support something that didn't care for.

BTW where did you subscribe to The Atlantic from? I think it is only available from website? And only yearly plans in USD?

@amit I subscribed via the iOS App Store. There are options for a monthly schedule too and in INR. I paid for a year because I'd read enough from them and felt it was worth it.

BTW, I also spent time cleaning up other media subscriptions. So in addition to The Atlantic, these are the ones I pay for now:

  1. The News Minute - They cover South India really well, which has always been neglected by the Delhi based press.
  2. The Caravan - Because they cover the reality of India far better than anyone else and the government doesn't like them very much :)
  3. The Ken - Possibly the most balanced business and tech reporting in India. I have issues with some of the angles they come at with some stories, but they are generally far and few in between.

@purisubzi I’ve been pretty happy with The Washington Post, some strangeness with the editorial board aside. The Atlantic just added a lot of great newsletters to their offerings.

@jsonbecker I like The Post and was a happy subscriber until recently. But started cutting back because my media diet was too America focused and felt I wasn’t paying enough attention (and giving money) to sources closer to home.

@purisubzi Yep. Been there myself. The US has a way of unduly monopolising attention on the web.
