Trying out a browser I recently found (and it is based on Mozilla, not Chrome). Cliqz (what are your experiences with this browser)? Insights welcomed.

@Mark\_DuBois it’s possible that domain CLIQZ.com is on some kind of blacklist

@prologic odd, it works fine for me. Actually did a copy and paste. Where are you located geographically? It seems to be EU focused (especially the search engine). Even had one of the developers engage with me on Twitter when I posted the link. Not sure why it would be unreachable for some?

@prologic possible blacklist, but I use several malware filters and am still able to reach the site on various devices. Curiouser and curiouser.

@Mark\_DuBois yeah i use AdGuardHome. I’ll find out what blacklist it’s on and let the developers know. Is the browser really called Cliqz?

@prologic I let the developer know the details you provided so far. Yes, that is the name of both browser and search engine. What can I say, no one asked me about what to name it! grin

@prologic just received this response from one of the developers. They are clearly aware. “We’ve experienced some users’ not being able to access our products because of irrational blocking of cliqz.com via DNS based blocking systems, it could be one of those instances. We are also trying to discuss with the maintainers to revert this blocking.”

@Mark\_DuBois yeah like I said I’ll find out what list it’s on and get back to you 😁 it’s possible that a man could be part of a broader regex match

@prologic perhaps this article will give you a better idea why this browser is a bit different. 0x65.dev/blog/2019...

@Mark\_DuBois Thanks! I have a quick read and installed Cliqz and my first impressions aren kind of "meh” I actually get quite a lot of the private, ad-blocking and anti-phishing Cliqz seems to promote by having a network-wide DNS filtering which works regardless of browser or device. Cliqz also seems to (strangely) consume more resources than say Chrome (my default)

@prologic makes sense. I try out different browsers frequently. Used Brave for a while now. Personally, I make it a habit to not rely on a single browser. Just like to see what is out there besides Chrome.

@Mark\_DuBois it’s funny because I am actually toying with the idea of building my own browser — But using someone else’s rendering engine like UltraLight
