I love the idea of wikis. My problem is I have no idea what I would use a wiki for.

@bradenslen I feel like I’ve gotten to know you a bit through your posts. I am confident in saying that wikis are too unstructured for your taste. You’re the directory guy. An organizer. Structure is your thing.

@fgtech @bradenslen Wikis can be structured, but I don’t think they are really designed by default to be so, so once you get beyond what you can do on a single page, you’d probably be fighting against it.

@bradenslen The problem is wikis really are basically the same as HTML and websites in general. The only real difference is the Markup that is used and the software behind wiki engine itself. So depending on your wiki software of choice your mileage may vary

@fgtech I think you are spot on. If I had a specific purpose for a wiki I think I could make it work but when I think about all the different projects I'd like to do none of them really are really screaming "do it with a wiki" at me.

But as @prologic says, if I ever were to create an extensive static type site, I think I'd try doing it on a wiki because it sorts the problem of maintaining navigation fairly well. But the reality is, for me, most things can be covered with a blog.

I kinda ruminate whenever I find a neat tool and try to think "how can I use this and make it work for me."

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! // @smokey
