Trying an experiment which I hope I won’t end up regretting: Re-enabling comments on blog posts on my site (but leaving them set to auto-close after two weeks).

Don’t know how often they’ll get used, or whether it’ll just be spammers and trolls, but it’s worth an attempt.

@djwudi personally I find in the past Deteriorates in to spam so I never end up enabling comments

@prologic Oh, it’s probably a foolish thing to try, but going through old posts on my blog has me stupidly nostalgic for the early days of blogging.

@djwudi it won't be an issue. I have my WordPress set to auto-close comments after 180 days. I see no increase in spam and the website has over 6000 posts. Akismet works well.

@khurtwilliams That’s encouraging! Making sure Akismet was active was a priority step in turning comments back on, that’s for sure.

@djwudi I find that spammers rarely target current posts (but I’ve learned that “Please Turn Off the Flash” and “Fantastico: No Longer So Fantastic” must rank highly for something somewhere out on the Internet 😂).
