If you use a unlimited bandwidth VPN on your computer or phone, do you always leave it on or turn it on & off depending on what sites/apps you’re using?

@pratik I base my usage more on what network I’m on currently.

@Mtt Ah! Was gonna be my next question. So less so on trusted network at home/work? But the websites are still gathering info on you, right?

@pratik Yeah to all of that. Honestly, there’s too much mental work required to switch for websites/apps (for me at least). I don’t have any services where I need to disguise my location for access, and if I need extreme privacy I’ll use a privacy focused browser.

@pratik Content Blockers, DuckDuckGo for search (and their privacy apps), delete Facebook, block cross site tracking. That accomplished most of what I need/want.

@Mtt True. I’m already off FB and use content blockers. I guess you’re right; trying to always be on guard can be exhausting. I was reading up on VPNs and was wondering about the use case for me. Thankfully in my tests, speeds are unaffected which wasn’t so 4-5 years ago when I last tested it.

@pratik There are times when I feel like speeds might be lower, but that’s rare. I mostly use mine for public WiFi (including friends/family WiFi). Really, my only ‘trusted’ networks are my home, my work (I’m administrator), my parents (I set it up), and my cell provider (out of necessity).
