I have no idea why my cell phone carrier in India sent me this SMS. Is the state of nationalism in India that desperate?

@pratik I consider it a good thing; several of my friends who don’t care about politics saw this message and learnt what G20 even is. As long as the tone of such a message is not overly biased, it’s better than seeing the stream of Swiggy and Zomato notications. XD

@uncertainquark Unless the mobile carrier is a public company, this just seems desperate. The message in itself is crafted sloppily. Imagine if companies started sending out such messages to "educate" people on everything. Also, chairing the G20 is nothing great.

I agree but have you seen how most Indian government orgs tweet? EVEN THE MOST MUNDANE INFORMATION IS FULLY CAPITALIZED and/or they use #tons #of #hashtags #for #no #damn #good #reason. 😂

In any case, yes, at the very least the DND setting should be respected even by the government.

@pratik @uncertainquark i can say for sure that my eyes are not looking at India ... I didn't even know that there was a rotating presidency 😋

@pratik aren’t you proud modi has put india on world stage and they look at them with respect! Did Nehru do this?!!!

@jemostrom That's what I was thinking. No one in the rest of the world gives a shit about G20's rotating presidency. It's just another effort by the Modi government to stir up nationalistic sentiments by using private businesses. But it's also insidious so that any criticism of the government is spun as criticism of India which is not at all the intention of most dissidents. I find such efforts at seeking external validation over minor "achievements" very offputting. @uncertainquark @supremus

@pratik I know as a New Zealander I look to India for annual cultural celebrations of *checks notes* particular farmed cereals.

@yorrike this is what happens when you run out of things to tell your people why you should be proud of your country.

Today I learned that 'Millets' is not only “the UK's leading retailer of Outdoor Clothing, Footwear & Equipment. With over 90 UK stores and the lowest prices, shop online or in store."

@pratik thank you, I've now learned what "hirs" is called in English! The only thing I can remember that I've used it for is food for budgies.

@JohnPhilpin Is Millets (Millet's? Millets'?) still in business? Feel like I haven't seen one for years.

Wait, why am I asking you, when I could ask the DuckDuck? Seems they are

@devilgate funny I remembered the name when I saw @pratik ’s post - but had to look them up myself.

@pratik It's a FAO initiative. And given millets' tolerence for drought, it's not so daft in a climate crisis.
