@indw Yeah, can’t understand that. Your health insurance is also crazy, I’ve talked about this with your fellow countrymen before.
Over here we’re paying a little over €200 at a super kindergarten, and very decent health care would set you back around €50-60/month. You can perfectly get by with our free national health service but, if you want to go private, that’s what it costs you.
Our salaries are, of course, much lower than yours. But things don’t add up, when you consider that.
@maique I’m sure you get this a lot from folks on this side of the Atlantic, but I would love to chat more about this topic (re: cost of living) with you sometime. We are pretty fed up with the quality of life issues here and are keen on a new adventure, even if only temporarily, abroad.
@indw As a Canadian I feel every bit of your struggle. We’re literally being costed out of existence in this country, and while the media still likes to focus on housing, gas, and food prices, the truth is we’re being price gouged in everything. Something has to give, it’s unsustainable. Even in a small town where I live, the rental and housing costs have become extortionate. My wife and I have discussed moving somewhere that has central air numerous times, but when we look at what we’d be forced to pay it’s downright insulting.

I’m originally from the Midwest U.S. and my parents still live there. I recently compared real estate on either side of Lake Huron and I was truthfully shocked. At least here we still have some places with relatively low cost of living.
