@mcg That sucks, maybe reach out to Fellow if you haven’t already to see what they can do? That’s surprising as I’ve read good reviews on the longevity of their gear.
@pimoore Probably will, to ask for parts, assuming I can get the burr off. It really does appear be built to last. I am guessing a manufacturing defect did this. Seriously bummed.
@mcg Depending how long you’ve had the grinder it may still be under warranty, but even if it’s not that sounds like a bad defect. Maybe they’ll get it replaced for you, I’ve heard their customer support is top notch. If it turns out for the worst, I can highly recommend the Baratza Virtuoso which is what I use. Excellent grinder.
@pimoore Long out of warranty, sadly. When I bought the Ode the Virtuoso was my second choice and what I ordered yesterday.
@mcg Nice! You’ll be very happy with it. I also had my motor die unusually (they even indicated so) just outside the warranty period, and Baratza replaced it without cost.
@pimoore Got the Virtuoso today and have been running some beans through it. Gotta say, it feels a bit like going from an iPhone(the Ode), to an Android. It might get the job done, but missing some polish. Will see how my first brew goes tomorrow.
@mcg Interesting, it’s been great for me, but never having the Ode means I don’t really have a good point of comparison. Where do you find the polish isn’t as good out of curiosity?
I will admit my next purchase may very well be a Comandante hand grinder, which I’ve been eyeing up for a long time.
@pimoore Both subtle and big things, like how the Ode has almost no plastic. The dose cup/grinds holder, satisfyingly gets pulled into place with a magnet. The plastic cup on this crunches into place as you have to lightly force it in. Not that I plan to change it much but I cannot read the grind setting numbers. I turned on lights and got a flash light, still had problems. Grey text on a shiny surface. Not deal breakers if it makes good coffee and lasts.
@mcg Well it certainly makes good coffee from my experience, and apart from the fluke motor failure it’s been solid. I can understand your points though; I’m not a fan of plastic myself, and I’ve also found the numbers hard to read. Thankfully I’ve mostly been able to put it out of my mind. 😆
@pimoore The Ode really feels like a product that should cost a lot more. Good coffee is the goal, yup.
@mcg I believe the Ode has flat burrs as opposed to conical, the former being much better from my understanding?
