YouTube advertising is becoming more obnoxious by the minute. Starting to wonder about whether there are better alternatives. Google is close to jumping the shark.

@frankm I’d be interested in finding alternatives too. But I don’t think they exist..

@frankm @pcora This is when watching in Safari with 1Blocker and Vinegar comes in mighty handy. I don’t even have the YouTube app installed, though I also deleted my Google account entirely. I save videos in the Play app on iOS, and follow channels via RSS.

Google can FLoC off.

@pimoore Same solution works for me: Vinegar, 1Blocker, and Play 🙂

@maique It’s truly great, I can still enjoy YouTube content without the fluff. Play even has an AppleTV version, though I’ve never used it yet as I watch on my phone or iPad only these days.

@pimoore do you have any tips on how to find the Play app? Searching for "play" or "play video" in the App Store does not yield useful results. :)

@pimoore wait, wait, there is an Apple TV version of Play already? Does this mean that I don't need to use youtube-dl and yt-dlp to download the videos and use Plex to watch it? Hmmm.

@rom There sure is! Perhaps I’ll check it out on my vacation and see how it works. To be honest my AppleTV doesn’t see much use these days, as it’s outdated and a bit long in the tooth.

@chipotle Ask and ye shall receive. It’s admittedly a tricky one to find, you have to put in the colon for it to populate in the search.
