What phone do you currently have?

@pimoore Currently the X. I’m looking at the 13 Pro, but need the 256 version, and it’s VERY expensive. It has not been a great year, again 🤣😅

@maique I'm in a similar boat but with the Pixel 6 Pro. I don't need it, like at all, but it is such a compelling upgrade from the Pixel 4 that I have. Even though the Pixel 4 is a fantastic phone and is working outstandingly.

@pimoore I’m still happy with this one, but thinking about a new client, one that I could shoot for exclusively with the iPhone. And the X is not great in low light situations. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and this would be a great opportunity, but I think it’s just too expensive 😔

@joelhamill I don’t need it, but could definitely use it. It’s too expensive for me at the moment, I’m afraid. There are a lot of other things that I can spend that money on, tough call 😔

@maique as no one has asked. How long did you go without food?

@nomdegar I wondered about that, but I believe the watch still needs to pair with a phone in some instances and isn’t yet fully independent.

@maique I hear ya, phones here in Canada are expensive (even the mini). And don’t get me started on our price gouging cellular plans which are some of the world’s biggest ripoffs. Definitely easier to have everything in one device, but still keeps me locked on that treadmill.

@pimoore As far as plans go, I believe we’re not that bad. We can get pretty decent monthly plans, with generous data allowances, and if you get the full package (we don’t at the moment) with cable included, even better. At the moment I’m paying around €20 a month, and never get to the limit.

@maique @pimoore that is awesome. My grandfathered plan gives me unlimited data, calls and SMS for US$30/mo - can't (and won't) since new plans don't have unlimited data at that price point

@rom @maique No doubt if I had a plan like that I’d hold onto it for dear life, can’t blame you one bit. Sad part about my plan is it’s not permanent, it was a “retention” plan to keep my business. Even our retention plans in Canada suck. 😆

@pimoore @maique ouch! I have another grandfathered plan on another network (since network coverage differs here - you need to be on the two biggest providers if you are to make sure that you have mobile data) - unlimited data only for US$12/month

@pimoore My buddy has. FUJI - I wish I knew the model number but is has a cool lens like in the 20s . The fit and finish - holding that camera is amazing. And it is 3 years old. I have the Iphone 12. I think this is going to be my last iphone for 5 years ... and I am going for a FUJI And a flipper. :) PS. I setup my external monitor with my ipad. today. I think I like this .. my desk is a mess so I have not wanted to share .. until I make it look cool like your desk!

@terrygrier Nice, would like to see your setup once you’re ready to share. I doubt I’ll go for an external display unless iPadOS fully supports it, and even then I still might not. My desk has changed slightly since I now have my microphone and audio setup, but still minimalist.

@rom No, I have not. I'll look into it, thank you. What I'm looking for is a camera/app that can shoot quickly, as during the day, and what I've seen on low light apps is that the result is ok, or good, but the exposure time is so slow I can't work with it. Perfect for indoor photos and landscape at night, but awful when I need to have people on the photos.

@maique ahh, yes. A small, pocketable camera with good low-light capabilities, a reasonable image quality, good ergonomics and a good price ... I could probably find a 🦄 before finding that 📷 😁.

@jemostrom Hahahahah... The X100 series, and the Q, almost fit the bill, if you don't consider the price. But I'm trying to get that on a phone, with that tiny sensor. Wanna talk about 🦄? 🤣

@maique I've touched one of the X100 models, 2-3 years, ago and was surprised how large and chunky it was. My immediate reaction was "Eww, I don't want to carry that around" and walked over to another brand. But I keep hearing how great they are so I'm going to take a look again when I get the chance. My 🦄 would be a camera with a 24-150/2.8 zoom with excellent optics/sensor ... full frame ... in the size of Canon S90. That would probably require adjusting several laws of physics 😜.

More seriously, I keep "waffling" about the use of a mobile camera. I mean, under the right conditions the result can be excellent, but the ergonomics is pretty bad and low light performance ... well, it could be better. On the other hand, I wouldn't be able to take this photo with any other camera I have, 2 second exposure, with outstretched arms, in a car that really jumps around (snow on the road that caused it to move around a lot). It was taken using an iPhone 11 Max, which is much better than my previous one (iPhone 6s Max), so it will be interesting to see what improvements there will be in my next one: iPhone 16/17 Max (or whatever it will be called).

@jemostrom I loved the size of the x100 series. Could easily fit in a jacket pocket, something the Q struggles with 😊

@JacekWislocki I know, I know, thank you. I still have a couple of them around, both old by now, and a decent lens lineup. I love the x100 series, owned a few, then sold the last one of those when I moved to the Q. I seldom use the Fuji cameras these days, battery life is just not great for longer assignments, but I miss the system and, mainly, I miss having the x100 with me. The Q has a 28 lens, and I'm a 35 kind of guy 🤣

@maique My current "pocket camera" is the LUMIX GX80 which isn't small, the smallest camera I have is the LUMIX GM1, which I can easily hide behind my hand. My favorite form factor was the Canon S90. My favorite "old style" camera is the Pentax MX - I bought mine brand new in -76 😆 I still have it but I haven't used it in ... 30 years or so.

@jemostrom Cool! The Ricoh GR should fit the bill as well, have you tried that one?

@maique No, I've never seen one in real life. But yes, I've been tempted to get one but I would really like to hold one first. This is probably the camera of this type that I'm most interested in, both the III and the IIIx is very tempting to me.

@maique ah true. Have you played with Halide?

@rom Yes, yes I have. It's the one app I use to shoot, when I'm not on the stock Camera app. Like it a lot.
