@ericmwalk In my youth I spent one winter living on a lake that froze over such that we could skate on it. Sometimes the surface would be wonderful, but other times—such as when there was snow followed by sun—we'd get a rough, crusty surface that made skating pretty unsatisfactory. When the elements favored us though, it was great fun.
