@brentsimmons This gives me an idea. There should be some sort off spoiler tag for political posts for those who come to Micro.blog to stay away from politics.
As far as the firing, I’m surprised they were able to convince him to wait until the midterms. Sometimes, perhaps foolishly, I wish they would just let him off the leash. Then maybe the GOP wouldn’t be able to give him cover. Sounds reckless but I’m tired of having him dominate the national discourse.
@uncrtn Good thinking.
It never occurred to me that people were coming here to get away from politics.
@uncrtn Yeah. I don’t know how anyone convinces him of anything he doesn’t want to do....
@grayareas my guess is they distract him with something shiny like, “have you seen what the ‘evil’ media is saying? Better get on Twitter.”
@grayareas @brentsimmons I think some people might. But I think others might enjoy a community of civility when it comes to politics (which can be difficult, haha!) that I think Micro.blog is a great place to foster that dialog. It is an interesting question though, how to balance more sensitive topics.
@EddieHinkle Yes, I would have thought it more likely to be the latter. But I don’t know.
@EddieHinkle one of the things I liked about MB in the beginning was the lack of politics. Now it’s become way more political, but I put it down to the election and am hoping that it dies down soon.
I don’t think a place like MB will foster the kind of dialog you’re talking about unfortunately. It’s too left leaning to enable that.
@EddieHinkle @grayareas @brentsimmons FWIW, I appreciate that we can discuss politics/political news here like real adults, but sometimes when the news becomes overwhelming, it is nice to have a retreat to a (mostly) politics-free space like Micro.blog.
@smokey Good point. But me, I’m going to talk about politics when I want to. Sometimes not at all, sometimes a lot.
@brentsimmons @EddieHinkle @smokey Agreed. This is the yuck of social media platforms. People curate what they say based on who their followers are or how many there are. MB is just your blog. Say what you feel, when you feel it and let the internet be an adult about it.
