So it sounds like we are going to be without power in some spots of the Bay Area for somewhere between 3-7 days? 🤷‍♂️ 🔋

@Burk so many people seem angry about it, too. I have to wonder if they really prefer the alternate: fire storms in their neighborhoods. 🔥🔥🔥

@Burk A lot of the criticism I’ve seen revolves around PG&E’s years-long foot-dragging around the sort of routine infrastructure maintenance—tree-trimming, tower repair, transformer replacement, etc.—that would have greatly reduced the fire risks they are now trying to mitigate with these blackouts. Also, there are very real impacts from these sorts of blackouts.

@petebrown @burk I have also seen criticisms regarding the way this was announced, or not as the case may be. It seems to have mostly been shared on the internet (granted I'm not in the area) which leaves me wondering if the elderly and vulnerable - who this affects more than others, are aware? I've seen a few reports of people finding that others have no idea about this which worries me.

@petebrown @burk True, though the underlying problem is that it’s impossible to build anything other than single family housing in most of the state. (If you made San Jose as dense as Queens, NY, a million more people could live there).

@rosemaryorchard @petebrown it’s broadly a case of “no one seems to know”. Lots of times, locations, and durations flying around. Really should have stated the plan once it was finalized. Now there are just 67,000 different versions and no one knows what to think.. Turning into a horrible game of telephone where it escalates with each pass.
