“I wonder if I have room for more in this post, what’s the character count at?”

(The character count is obscured by the keyboard switcher button) 😑

As much as I find micro.blog useful, it’s clear that it doesn’t have much of a culture for testing its software

A screenshot of a part of the micro.blog posting interface on the iPad. The keyboard switching button obscures the character count.

@baldur I mean, I get that this kind of stuff is annoying (my pet peeve is the sporadic nature of RSS feed importing), but I guess I also tend to grade smaller dev outfits on a different scale than big companies. All software is broken and janky, but I find this kind of pretty inexcusable for million/billion dollar companies with teams of testers. For small shops or indie devs, I guess I usually shrug and am just glad they’re able to put out a decent app that mostly works.

@petebrown I mean, it’s one dude who has shipped five apps and keeps adding features such as transcripts and e2e encrypted notes. I don’t think slowing down the feature churn to test and fix longstanding UI and editing widget bugs is too much of an ask

@baldur I’ll also say that I tend not to care much about a lot of the UI bugs and quirks because the main value I get out of it is the hosting, but that’s just me. I can see how other folks have different priorities and these bugs can be super-annoying.

@baldur Interesting. I don’t see a keyboard switcher button in my app (just trying it out now). Is it an iOS feature one can turn on?

@lwdupont You need to have multiple different keyboard languages enabled and a hardware keyboard connected, which isn’t an uncommon scenario when writing on an iPad.
