The state of emergency.

“Today’s national emergency is border security. But a future president may use this exact same tactic to impose the Green New Deal.”

Marco Rubio

Might Trump himself use the same logic in 18 months time to stop the 2020 elections?

@JohnPhilpin Legally, I don't think he can because the States run elections.

@JohnPhilpin We have sunk low, but we have not sunk low enough for that to work. Oaths are sworn to defend The Constitution, not the man. People will just stop obeying his orders or reporting to him.

@JohnPhilpin I was not going to post this but I will. I collect quotes too: "The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed - where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once." -- Alex Kozinski

@JohnPhilpin I think that if Trump is going to violate the Constitution so flagrantry, it is not going to be to stay in office, but rather to get out of office 1) without threat of legal action, and 2) still looking like “a winner.” I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he had no plan or idea that he was going to actually end up in the White House, and being there has brought the type of scrutiny his “business” can’t withstand.
