It’s amazing to me that the least valued, least used, and most uncool social network in the world is constantly the most important.

@joshua agreed. I think we have to compare these tools, with other platforms history has show in. Newspapers, TV, Radio and now App Notifications. There were probably more people watching the announcement via social media broadcasts than a tv.

@Munish not social media on my case, but it has been at least 3 years since I don’t watch live tv. In Poland we had cable and only used for cartoons, now we have only streaming services. And I know lots of people in similar scenarios. 😊

@Munish @joshua I got the news, this particular one, through a notification from The Guardian. We turned on the TV at that point. I do use Twitter for news, following a few news related accounts, and the TV is where we catch up, with the nightly news. Truthfully, most of them are, by then, old news. Twitter has made me aware of them by then.

@Munish @maique @pcora @joshua And I was working on the Micro.blog app and seen it (the news) from @Gaby. Then I just kept working 😬

@Munish oh, same. I found out several hours later. I was having dinner with my colleagues. My wife told me when we were going to bed.

@joshua I got the news on micro.blog! Noticed a series of posts about it, then opened the Guardian site for more. I was reminded that not following the news makes me a bit of a parasite on other people who do follow the news.

@joshua Interesting point. The value and relevance of platforms are definitely two different things.

@JMaxB I’m as guilty as you. I found out via people making jokes, and I had to spend a second reverse engineer the jokes to understand.

@joshua I get news from Twitter. It’s faster than most other outlets. I first heard about Japan Earthquake and the Tsunami that hit us and many other world events. I guess it just following the correct accounts.
