I switched to Apple Music a long time ago, but I still use Spotify (and right now, it’s my “main” platform) because finding new music is MUCH easier on Spotify. The “Made for You” playlists are full of either songs I already love or tracks I haven’t heard before but would love to discover. Also, I’m not s... pawel.orzech.me

@pawel … then why not just use Spotify?

I switched to Tidal from Spotify, due to artist payments (however, I think I might’ve looked at it the wrong way) — but I miss Spotify… 😔

@Havn I do use Spotify right now, but: it's giving money to Joe Rogan, Spotify keeps paying artists less than Apple Music does and quality of music isn't top tier (and I do have good enough stereo to listen to lossless music)

@pawel Regarding the payments to artists — would be interested in hearing your opinion on the article I linked above, if you have the opportunity to check it out. I’m not sure the «payment per stream» is the right way to look at things.

But I follow you on the Joe thing!

I landed on not using Apple Music because they get enough money (including from me), heh. So would rather use a smaller player if there’s a good option.

I do hear the difference in quality going to Tidal - especially on my Grado headphones. But it’s personally not an important factor.

@Havn huh interesting take regarding how much goes to artist either way. Joe thing still stands though! And music quality.

Isn’t tidal the best of both worlds with great quality and pretty ok app?

@pawel Thanks! Yeah, I suddenly started thinking «Wait, if I pay €12/Month for music, no matter which service I use… What I really want to know is if a different part of that €12 goes to artists.» And I’ve found no evidence of Apple (or Tidal) being better in that regard. (Not saying they’re not either.)

Yeah, that’s why I landed on Tidal. (I didnt want to go even more niche). I can recommend giving it a shot!

If you have Sonos, I’d jump on the Tidal beta - as better support is there.

Things I miss from Spotify are:

  • Spotify Connect between devices (you get, live, what you’re playing on another device),
  • better playlists,
  • and better recommendation algorithms.

(But the last two elements aren’t terrible on Tidal.) It does have 100% less podcasts, though — which is a plus. 😎
