Do you financially support your Mastodon host before you finacially support a Mastodon client? Or vice versa?

@todd I think instance first. There might be times not to but it’s very pricey to run

@toddgrotenhuis cards on the table: I’m paying for two hosts (micro.blog and social.lol) and I am wondering how many people about to support Ivory are already supporting a host/instance.

@toddgrotenhuis Personally, I think Mastodon instances should be subscription based, even if it's only $1 a year. That alone would keep bots and riff raff to a minimum. Maybe a free account only gives you access to a limited feature set. And, of course, if you value a service, pay for it.
