I read “algorithms are so good they can ‘figure you out’.” As @smokey wrote in another thread, ‘Language Is Important’.

To be clear. Some algorithms can figure you out. Most are tracking, watching and conducting surveillance on you.

Don’t allow corporate speak to confuse us.

@JohnPhilpin If the algorithm that tried to sell me t-shirts on Facebook has me figured out, then there’s a lot less to me than I’d thought.

@JohnPhilpin I suspect that algorithm was trying to lull me into a false sense of security.

@JohnPhilpin An algorithm apparently thinks I’m interested in playing cricket. I’m from Memphis. Wrong ball, stupid algorithm. Wrong... ball. 🏀

@JohnPhilpin Yep, they can figure out what I do, but not why I do it, can’t account for randomness/irrationality/emotion/humanity.

@paulcraig901 in fairness, you might be missing out. As Lord Mancroft is recorded to have said:

“Cricket is a game which the English, not being a spiritual people, have invented in order to give themselves some conception of Eternity.”
