I’ve received feedback that Proxygen is not a very good app name and I tend to agree.
What would you call it? Any suggestions?

Here’s a selection of names an LLM suggested to me. Any good ones?
Sniffery
NetCraft
ProxyKit
Proxify
Proximate
Proxigen
Proxoid
Proxium
Proxima
Proxilio
@pasi
I'm biased, but I like Proxima because "Próxima" means "the next one" or "the close one" in Spanish.
@Andres I know some Spanish too ;-) and lean towards those words.
Here are a few more ideas that gave me more inspiration
Hypercept
Hypergram
@pasi I like NetCraft, but I’m terrible at naming things. I have an app called Arrgly for heaven sake! 🤣

Hypercept
Hypergram
Hyperject
Hyperformation
Hyperform
Hyperflux (nice one!)
Hyperwave
and
Transcept
Packetflux
@pasi Oh, yes. I think we all look up to Panic as a model. I do, that’s for sure. It’s a lot to live up to, but a worthy goal!
@pasi Proxima and then make a sidekick for it called Centauri. What it would do I have no idea 😃
Some more ideas
TLSProxy (I like the simplicity)
MiddleBox (a fun one)
ProxyTrace (what the app does!)
@tuomas_h :D
I did initially like Proxima too, but I fear it’s not very pronounceable.
@pasi My first idea was HTTP something. But hyper sounds also nice.
Maybe
-Hyperdebugger
-Hyperproxy
-HyperHTTP
@pasi No way! I intentionally avoided LLM for this because I wanted to be funny. It’s sad that I only repeated LLM’s joke ![]()
@marioguzman @tuomas_h I was thinking you Americans :-) Having heard the difficulties with Festivitas some weeks ago, I wouldn’t want to go with a Spanish word necessarily. It’s not a bad name otherwise, nice and short! But not very memorable IMO.
@pasi @tuomas_h I was gonna say, as a native Spanish speaker, it just means “next” for us.
But also as an American, we wouldn’t have issue saying this word either. Isn’t there even a font called Proxima?
As for Festivitas, I think it’s because Festivitas just doesn’t roll off the tongue — not that it’s difficult.
@marioguzman @tuomas_h Yeah you’re right. But I think we can come up with a better one than Proxima (does it sound like a proxy app really?)
@pasi Hyperwave, just because I'm (still) into synthwave. Then make the icon all violet and gradient-y.
@juri I liked it too, too bad the word wave doesn’t have much to do with the app.
@pasi @marioguzman @tuomas_h Something like Interloper or Interceptor maybe?
@amyworrall @marioguzman @tuomas_h I like them both, although for someone just doing iOS development they may have a too “malicious” feel.
Yup, my own background is from security consulting and app hacking, but I’d like this app to be both a developer and security tool. But maybe Interceptor is what this app is even in app development.
I’d just like it to be somewhat snazzy, like a word you haven’t heard before but still understand.
@pasi @marioguzman @tuomas_h I was thinking along the lines of Little Snitch. Informant maybe?
@amyworrall @marioguzman @tuomas_h It may be a bit too concrete and descriptive of what the app does. I’m hoping to add some automated API testing functionality to the app soonish, and Informant wouldn’t match that so well. Keep the ideas coming though! 👏
@pasi @marioguzman @tuomas_h Good job I didn’t continue this line of thought and suggest Nark!
@pajp It impossible to find by googling because of Facebook and a some medical company. I think I lost that fight before it ever even began.
@pasi I don’t see anything wrong with Proxygen. It’s smart word play on oxygen + proxy
Is a name change really worth it? Names are overrated anyway
The meaning comes from the app and your work anyway. The name alone won’t make or break anything
