Student: You keep telling me how important
it is to get an education, but it's really
expensive. Can I get some help?
Germany: All college is tuition-free.
Finland: We welcome anyone in the world to get
any level of education no charge.
Denmark: Don't be silly, college won't cost you
anything. But we will provide you $900/month
for living expenses for 6 years.
United States: This is America, pull yourself up by
your bootstraps. We'll provide you loans at 10x the
interest rate we charge banks. If you don't pay, we'll
garnish your paycheck. If you declare bankruptcy,
you still owe us. Also, textbooks aren't included.

@kangaroo5383 I've often wondered why there isn't a pipeline of American kids going overseas for an education.

@kangaroo5383 Due to Republicans in 1980s after affirmative action passed. They’d rather burn it all down than see marginalized people succeed.

@kangaroo5383 I know some guy who complained about about paying so much for his kids’ college bills when he paid so little for his college bills when he was younger. After that he complained about paying too much taxes. Apparently he couldn’t make the connection between the two things.

@kangaroo5383 not quite accurate anymore unfortunately. Non-EU residents pay tuition fees in Finland these days.

@kangaroo5383 That would make sense. I'd still expect a cottage industry around finding loopholes, given the money involved on the US end.
