I just backed HyperDrive: World's 1st USB-C Hub for iPad Pro 2018 on @Kickstarter
@EddieHinkle Too bad it only has a single USB-C port. I don't understand the lack of actual USB-C hubs... you know, in the sense we're used to, 5 USB-C ports in, one wire going to computer. Is there some technical limit I'm missing? The only ones I've seen are at the back of a monitor, but those are too large to carry around in my bag... Sorry for stealing this space for my rant
@oyam I feel like there must be a technical limitation because my MacBook Pro USB-C one has 2 USB-C ports but it plugs into 2 USB-C ports my MacBook Pro. So it seems almost like they are limited by how many USB-Cs they are connected to? I of course don’t actually understand any of the actual tech limitations
@EddieHinkle It's possible... I find it hard to accept the USB consortium would go for a standard that didn't technically allow for actual hubs? Wouldn't that be shooting themselves in the foot?
@oyam That's true. I guess I wonder if it's more complex or maybe more expensive? It's very strange that no one seems to be doing it.
@EddieHinkle Some monitors have them, like the LG UltraFine disaplay, but they still are 3 USB-C ports running at USB 2 (480Mbit), and USB-C ports out. I'd take this solution over nothing if it came in portable form, though.
@EddieHinkle ooo! I think I ordered one of these too? Don’t remember 100%. I hope it’s awesome!
