@JohnPhilpin I just read the entry of today, and it made me think about the “Norwegian arm” - the rude reaching across the table for something. What many perceive as rude in this, is by others considered thoughtful; one does not want to interrupt anyone in their eating, so one rather reach for the item oneself. 🧂

@odd Yup - cultures are different. As are people. I know a young (17yrs) kid who on first pass seemed to lack manners at the dinner table. Everyone sits down and pretty much before anyone has settled down, he has already served himself and started eating.

Apparently he is the youngest in a family of 11 kids. If you didn’t grab and eat - quick - you didn’t eat.

@JohnPhilpin I would see that as a bit selfish too, if I didn’t know that extra information. We’re all different, although we’re mostly the same.

@JohnPhilpin @odd the Germans prefer this generally, rather than waiting for everyone to get to the table, especially if the food is hot. Every once in a while Ordnung takes a backseat to das Leben.
