I stumbled across the first iterations of my blog that I had self-hosted with WordPress. I had left my creativity free allowing me to “design” the logo and favicon and headers and everything. What’s worse, I did it all in Powerpoint. Oh, those were the crazy effortless days.

@amit I think it looks good. Not only for 2008, but it could have served it’s purpose today too, if it was responsive.

@amit You did that in PowerPoint‽ You sir, are hardcore.

@odd Hah! I am not sure of that. Things have moved towards minimalism. Gone are the days of loaded headers and multi-column, tabbed homepages. At least, for blogs.

@pimoore Hahah! Oh I didn't know any other tool. It was either this or Paint. I preferred PowerPoint 😜

@amit I agree with @odd that is really good. Minimalism has it's place. I think in part it's a response the increased use of mobile devices, but I think it can be taken too far, some treat it as and end unto itself.

@amit You’d have to be a masochist to use Paint for, well, anything.

@bradenslen Well, I agree. But for blogs, we have chosen to take things too far over the years. Most of them are stripped of all the quirky fun elements they were full of earlier.

@amit The good old blogging days! 😍 I especially miss the lively comment sections blogs had back then. Nowadays most bloggers don't even have a comments enabled anymore :/

Smartphones kinda ruined things for us too. "No space" for all those quirky fun things on the screen! 😄

@amit Effortless? It doesn't sound that way. :)

@amit I have three blogs: one on a self-hosted wordpress, one on blot.im, and one here on micro.blog. Even though I don't post much I shoot for the least amount of friction possible. The wordpress blog's days are numbered.

@juha I agree, it was simpler times then. Fortunately, blogging hadn't gone mainstream. Not that it has now, but rise of smartphones changed the rules of the game. Sigh! 😕

@ddykstal I believe the sarcasm was lost. It always does. Yet, I often use it 🙃

Regarding WordPress, I am not sure if it will go away anytime soon. For a personal blog, may be. But the folks behind it continue to keep it simple and affordable to own a blog on WordPress.

@amit As for the sarcasm, I figured that was probably the case after a bit of thought. Sometimes the penny takes a while to drop. As for WordPress, I meant my particular blog that uses it. I'll find a better place for it someday.
