I bought a paper shredder yesterday and have spent some time going through paperwork that I want to get rid of securely. I find something deeply satisfying about watching the papers being chewed up into a pile of little pieces.

@crossingthethreshold I inherited a shredder from my father that I still have today. It makes the confetti style shreds and I find it quite satisfying to use. But my favorite feature is the model name of the shredder: The Watergate
@crossingthethreshold It is very satisfying! 😃 For the most secure handling of paperwork, it should probably be a combined printer and shredder, that shreds the paper just as it is printed out! 😜
@odd genuinely though a travel-sized printer-shredder for privacy-conscious digital nomads would be phenomenal
@odd I was actually thinking something similar as I was shredding! Some of the paperwork I had printed off not too long ago.
@robknight That is such a fitting name. 😃
@crossingthethreshold I remember back in the 90s, when they talked about “The paperless office”. Well, that didn’t happen. And now, with the newfound analogue movement, and bad actors on the net, it is probably even less likely.
@crossingthethreshold this is me with junk mail. I get nervous with anything involving credit anyway, so watching those get destroyed feels like a win.
@crossingthethreshold @robknight @odd @warner @crossingthethreshold @skoobz I get an immense childlike satisfaction out of shredding old papers (and credit applications with the fake cards), it’s actually quite cathartic. My wife even saves them up just for me.
Once again I’m reminded about one of my favourite shredding videos:
@pimoore Hahaha! 😂🤣😂 That’s great! Really compatible!
I’ve been meaning to get a shredder to, but have been hesitant because there are some that’s not very good, (they have one in the office, and the two prior ones weren’t so good).
@crossingthethreshold His machine looked like it didn’t even have any hard drive space left for any games. 😂
@skoobz Yes, I sense that I'll be shredding more mail now rather than just throwing it away.
