A dose of real. I’ve lived in Minnesota the majority of my life and I’m sure I’ve done this:

@hjalm Yes, it’s a lot of this in Norway too, but being gradually Americanized, (because of social media and entertainment), it’s changing, I think. I believe (older) people tend to be careful not to be subjected to sales pitches or strangers because most people are afraid to (actually) being rude and having to tell someone to go away. It’s that inherent fear about getting upset and/or angry just as much as anything that hold back smiles and openness. If you follow her thread further down, however, she writes:

ok correction: apparently the person I was talking to was a terrible person and I didn't realize it so that's why my minnesotans were being cold lmao. my mom's southern warmth jumped too far out and I was the one not realizing it was time to turn the ice on 🤡
