I’m unhappy when I spot random bits of plastic, rope or other stuff on our beach, but we have nothing like this level of pollution: The Beach Where Lego Keeps Washing Up. Apparently studies have shown Lego in a marine environment could last 1300 years!

@Miraz If only the shipping companies were to be held responsible not for just paying for the pollution, but also doing the cleanup, or hiring someone to do it. 😡⚓️

@odd True, but not just shipping companies. We need to be globally more aware of and responsible for goods and their packaging — reduce, being the first step. Then those that produce being responsible for what they produce. We have a problem in NZ with toxic waste from places like the aluminium smelter. Disposing of that waste properly should have been their (monitored and regulated) responsibility from the start.

@Miraz I totally agree. Also, composites and types of plastic should be reduced to a minimum, and have a strategy for recycling, paid for by the producers. They will of course then reflect that in the price, and it will so (probably) reduce the amount of the consumed goods.
